Steamships Limited is looking out for a capable individual to join our Corporate Affairs team as a Sustainable Development Officer. 

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Sustainable Development Officer located in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. As a Sustainable Development Officer, you will participate in the creation of a new and ambitious sustainability strategy at Steamships. The newly created role offers potential for professional development. Main responsibilities will include supporting on: implementation of sustainability projects across our logistics, property, and hotels divisions; environmental data collection, analysis and reporting; community engagement. The Sustainability Officer will raise awareness of sustainability issues and initiatives within the company and represent our values externally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject (such as environmental sciences, international law, development studies, etc.) 
• Flexible depending on skillset. Roughly 2-3 years in similar role or covering similar responsibilities. However, high-calibre individuals (e.g., junior accountants, lawyers) with transferable skills (data handling, analysis, critical thinking) would be considered. 
• Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills – confident interacting with senior colleagues and building relationships across the divisions and externally.
• Strong time-keeping and organizational skills.
• Qualitative and quantitative research skills.
• Enthusiastic and willing to learn, with a curious, analytical mind.
• Demonstrates accuracy and attention to detail.
• Able to manage a varied workload and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrable interest in global and local sustainability issues. 
• Genuine commitment to personal professional development
