Gateway Hotel’s team put on their gardening gloves for World Environment Day
09 June 2025
To mark World Environment Day (5th June), the Gateway team came together for a "go-green" initiative aimed at raising awareness and inspiring action.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, members of our management and maintenance teams rolled up their sleeves to take part in a tree-planting and clean-up effort across our garden spaces.
This initiative forms part of our long-term strategy to improve our approach in protecting and maintaining the environment, and it supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
1. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. ♻️
2. Promoting environmental stewardship through hands-on tree planting and clean-up activities.

This year, the theme was centered on how we manage, communicate, and uphold safety and operational standards at every level of the business.
Core messages reinforced throughout the week included:
✔️ Safety First
✔️ Operational Involvement
✔️ Quality Service
✔️ Policy Alignment
Throughout the week, the team covered a wide range of critical areas:
Early Week Focus: Reinforcing our safety culture, rigging knowledge, and sharpening professionalism.
Midweek Emphasis: Cost control, machinery downtime, vessel planning, and aligning KPIs with real operational performance.
Late Week Exploration: Leadership visibility, lifting gear inspections, customer confidence, and growth opportunities in transport operations.
The event concluded with a fantastic team-building bush walk and BBQ, reinforcing the strong team spirit that drives us forward.
As we move into the second half of 2025, we remain united by a renewed commitment to safe operations, proactive leadership, and delivering quality outcomes for our customers.

At Steamies, we celebrate our exceptional people, and are proud to be shining a spotlight on our CGP alumni Alumita Chan.
Throughout her tenure with Steamships, Alu has gone from strength to strength, pushing her boundaries and completing her assignments to the highest degree. One particular achievement is her role in obtaining the EDGE Green Building Certification for our corporate headquarters- @345, the first in the Pacific.
Her hard work on this project recently earnt her the award of 2025 Female Innovator of the Year as part of the Business Advantage PNG Innovation Conference, in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
The Innovation awards were designed to encourage growth and recognise & celebrate ground breaking advancements, creative solutions, and impactful initiatives across various fields, from technology and science to business and social impact. Four awards were given out by a judging panel chaired by inventor and futurist Mark Pesce .
- The inaugural Innovation PNG Award for Female Innovator (Sponsored by Moni Plus) was split between two entrants, Alumita and the other being BSP’s Penelope Aisi led the team which developed the bank’s recently launched Wantok Wallet mobile wallet.

The unit’s design and its successful trials, have already delivered the safe and hygienic facility to thousands of villagers.
- The Innovation PNG Award for Large Business (Sponsored by Remington Group) was awarded to superannuation fund Nasfund, for its use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automate the processing of the invoices it receives from its suppliers.
