Steamships Gold Sponsor of Hiri Moale Festival

Steamships announced its support of the Hiri Moale Festival 2021 with the presentation of K100,000 cheque as Gold Sponsor of the Festival this year at Ela Beach Hotel on Wednesday 26 January.

Steamships has been a long-time supporter of the Hiri Moale Festival of its objectives of ensuring the survival of Motu Koita cultural knowledge through sharing of traditional songs, dances, and craftsmanship. The sponsorship will go towards the construction of Coral Seas Performance Arena, supporting each of the ten Hanenamo’s and the cultural performing groups and designated catering. In addition to the monetary support, the Grand Papua Hotel is giving each of the contestants’ gym membership to encourage healthy lifestyles and choices, valued at K4000 each.

Steamships’ Managing Director, Rupert Bray, said that ‘National Capital District and the Motu Koita region was and still is the base of our entire operation. Many of our Steamships family come from the Motu Koita community, our relationship with the Motu Koitabuan people is an enduring one. Supporting cultural events and preserving rich traditions is something that we take great pride in.’

MKA Chairman and Deputy Governor for NCD Dadi Toka Junior said “This partnership is not new, and It’s wonderful to see Steamships honouring its ties with the MKA people through this sponsorship. The Coral Seas Cultural Performance arena will see twenty (20) different Motu Koita groups display the wide range of diversity of cultural expression in our community.
