Steamships Limited donates K20,000 to the Hanuabada Fire Appeal. Steamships Limited donated K20,000 to the Hanuabada Fire Appeal Committee on Tuesday 12th September. Staff from Consort, TPS and Pactow presented to the Committee. Steamships has a long and proud association with the Motu Koita people, particularly the people of Hanuabada. All of the Steamships businesses value the relationship we have with Hanuabada.
This cheque of K20,000 is just one way in which we honour that relationship. We are also contributing to a clean up project later this month, something we have supported in the past, and we will continue to work closely with the people of Hanuabada for mutual benefit and development.
Steamships Supports Femili PNG

Family and sexual violence (FSV) is a major problem in Papua New Guinea that demands the attention of all businesses and citizens of the country. There are a number of organizations that work tirelessly to address the issues in the country, and provide support and protection for survivors of violence.
Steamships is supportive of such organisations and is excited to partner with Femili PNG to sponsor the Rosie Batty lectures at the University of Technology in Lae on April 25 and at the University of Papua New Guinea on 27th April.
While in PNG, Ms Batty will also visit Femili PNG’s case management centre in Lae, which provides support services to women, men and children who are affected by family and sexual violence. The Centre is funded by the Australian Government.
“The prevalence of family and sexual violence in Papua New Guinea is an urgent and well-documented issue. Other countries, including our neighbors Australia, have recognized the issue and much is being done, through both legislatively, and the work of campaigners such as Rosie Batty, to address this appalling social evil”, said the Managing Director of Steamships, Mr Peter Langslow.
“Femili PNG has also been a tireless advocate against FSV, particularly in Lae and Morobe, and it is a wonderful initiative to bring Ms Batty to PNG to share her story with our young people, and to put the spotlight on the issue of family and sexual violence” Rosie Batty is the CEO and Founder of the Luke Batty Foundation. Rosie began campaigning for better responses to FSV after her 11-year-old son Luke Batty was murdered by his father in a public assault after cricket training in 2014. During her visit to PNG, Rosie will share her personal story and also share some of the lessons learned in Australia’s response to FSV.
Pacific Towing sends two more staff to Hong Kong

Pacific Towing (PNG) Ltd. seafarers, Mate 4, Mathew Pune & Engineer Cadet, Thomas Mangung, spent December with Hong Kong Salvage & Towage Co Ltd. on a work experience programme on their tugs in the sixth busiest port in the world.
They gained insight into the operating & maintenance of large tugs with 5,000 brake horse power engines that develop 77 ton bollard pull. They learnt about Hong Kong Salvage & Towage Co Ltd. safety systems and observed and participated in harbour towage moves on huge tanker & container ships. Mathew said, “The exposure was a great opportunity.
We have truly enjoyed, gained and experienced some new things from what we have observed.” Thomas said, “The Chief Engineers taught me how a person can perform the engine room maintenance precisely and safely. I was challenged to learn as much as I can.” Gerard Kasnari, Pacific Towing (PNG) Ltd. Designated Person Ashore, said that this was the second team to attend the Hong Kong work experience programme and that the company would continue supporting the exercise. Mr. Kasnari added, ‘Our crews are implementing their new skillsets and this enhances our existing high safety and performance standards.’ Neil Papenfus, Pacific Towing (PNG) Ltd. General Manager, thanked Hong Kong Salvage & Towage Co Ltd., their General Manager, Mr. Cliff Chow, the Operations Manager Mr. K Lam, and their tug crew and staff for their support and assistance. ‘They have been very generous,’ said Mr. Papenfus, ‘and we really appreciate their help and guidance.’
Steamships donates K10,000 to PNG Paralympic Committee

Steamships continues to support the PNG Paralympic Committee with its annual donation of K10,000. Honorary President and Chef de Mission of PNG Paralympic Committee Dr Kefu Ma said that donations from Steamships for over 19 years since 1997 have assisted the officials and most importantly the Athletes with Disability to prepare for various national and international events.
Secretary General of PNG Paralympic Rosemary Mawe thanked Steamships for their continued support and added that the money would greatly assist preparations for our 2017 activities which include the BSP PNG Games in Kimbe in March, then thereafter training program in preparation for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games on 4th – 15th April.
Mawe added that, PNGPC is privileged to have such a premier organization in the country to support its efforts in realizing the dreams of PNG elite Athletes with Disability and we greatly value this partnership.
